The scoop on bathroom shower curtains

The one area of bathroom decor that has evolved more than any other is probably that of bathroom shower curtains. They used to be drab and functional, and were an unattractive piece of necessary plastic hanging in your bathroom, adding little in the way of color and usually blocking out whatever light was available as soon as the curtain was closed, making the experience of using the shower a dim and rather blah experience. But not any more, because shower curtains now come in materials, colors, textures, and designs that are great fun and work better than ever before.

There are bathroom shower curtains that are crystal clear, and there are clear curtains made in a number of cool textures. Some even look like holograms, so that the color of the curtain behaves like the feather on a peacock and constantly changes colors when the light hits it from various different angles and directions. The clear curtains are especially good for making a room look lighter, and looking larger, whereas solid color curtains help to make the visual space shrink and look smaller. The clear curtains are made with special mildew resistant material, and can usually be washed easily or in some cases, even machine washed.

The cool type of bathroom shower curtains to own if you are a fan of the Big Apple, if you live in and around NYC, or if you just like to be on the hip cutting edge of design, are the ones that are sold by the NYC transit authority, and have maps of the subway system printed on them. You an also get curtains that have maps of the world, of your favorite city like Paris or Rome, or ones that have maps of the stars in the sky or the lunar surface.

Whatever kind of bathroom shower curtains you decide upon, make sure you get rings that work well with the decor of your bathroom and that are not going to rust or keep coming undone while you use them. There are some great plastic rings for hanging curtains in your shower, that will not rust and move very smoothly across curtain rods.

Some people hang their bathroom shower curtains in unconventional ways. One tip we got from a decorator is to use a piece of copper pipe, found at any home improvement plumbing center, instead of an ordinary wooden or aluminum curtain rod, and the copper will give your bathroom a dressed up look, and will gradually take on an antique patina, over time.
