A curved shower rod
You may have found that your shower curtain does not protect on all sides,
and that you are in need of a special shape rod, like a curved shower rod.
These are made especially for showers that are over bathtubs that are free
standing and not built into the walls around them.
To use a curtain on a curved shower rod, you just hang it as you normally
would, using curtain rings or clips or whatever design you prefer for
hanging the curtain so that it falls nicely into the area of the shower or
tub. The difference is that with a curved rod, the shower curtain itself
will be curved around instead of hanging in one linear straight line, so
that it can go around the curvature of for instance, a claw foot bath tub.
These curved shower rod accessories are usually mounted from hardware that
is either up about the shower rod, or is on the nearest walls next to the
tub or shower. Sometimes a big hoop is fashioned out of aluminum or other
material, and then this hoop is hung the way you might hang a large
mosquito net, by screwing or clamping it on the ceiling up above and then
letting it be situated above the shower or tub area the way you might see
a ceiling light fixture situated.
You can make your own curved shower rod, but it will hard to make one out
of a normal straight rod, because the metal is too hard to bend. If you
want to make a do it yourself curved rod, then you might choose a soft
metal like copper - you can buy copper pipe and then bend it - but this
might also require some special tools. Wood is not a really easy option,
because most woods are hard to shape into a curve. For those doing it
themselves, the most popular material is plastic, especially plastic that
is bendable. Or you can use plumbing pipe made of PVC, and buy curved
joints or elbows, to connect pieces of the PVC together until you have an
oblong shaped rod.
