You can make a very nice and hip looking shower curtain rod yourself, if you want to. The tricky part is figuring out how to install it against the walls of the shower or where ever it is needed. Sometimes you can use pre made installation brackets, or you may be able to do something yourself like attach it with some nails or screws or by making holes in the wall to push the rod into, in which case you would probably want to also use an adhesive, a glue, or other product, plus a caulk sealant.

You can create a nice shower curtain rod out of any material that is not going to be corrupted by water. For example, you can use a length of plastic pipe, like pvc pluming pipe, to make a rod, or you can use other materials like stainless steel or chrome plated metal or aluminum. And you can use wood, if it is sealed with a sealer to keep it from getting wet and rotting. And there are some natural woods like teak and bamboo, that are resistant to moisture and will also work very well to use to hang your curtain in the shower.

There are some people who do not have a conventional type of box shaped or closet shaped shower, and instead they have a shower built over a standard bathtub or by some other arrangement that requires the use of a curtain that goes around the tub in a circle, semicircle, or oval fashion. For those with that kind of need, there are a number of excellent shower curtain rod designs that are curved, and if you ask for a curved rod at any bath or plumbing supply store, the people should be able to help you locate one.
