Shower doors

Any time you use shower doors, you have to be concerned about several factors that may not apply to other types of inside doors. For example, your closets do not need to be protected from water and excessive humidy, and your bedroom door does not have to be constructed of special materials to protect you from injury the way a door inside a shower does.

All shower doors should be made of material that is resistant to water or water proof, because they will be exposed to lots of water on a regular basis and this can be the cause of mold, rot, and leakage if you use a material such as untreated and unfinished wood, particle board, or that kind of thing to make a shower door. Most doors are made of special types of safety glass, because glass allows in light, and that can help to reduce the need for overhead lighting in the shower itself. And the glass is made of special materials that make it less likely to break, because in the shower it is imperative that we take all safety precautions to avoid breaking glass. The glass is often made with a slice of unbreakable synthetic transparent plastic material in the middle of it, and the glass itself is attached permanently to that material, so that even if the glass should break, it cannot fall away from the material in the center that keeps it in one supported piece and protects you from any falling particles of glass.

When you put up any door, you have to be careful to balance the door in the door opening or the doorway framing, or else the door will not open and close the way it is supposed to. It will stick or be crooked in a way that will keep it from opening at all, or from closing all the way, and this can ruin the project of putting in a new or replacement door. For doors, and this includes shower doors, it is important to place the door precisely in the opening, with the supporting hinges or other types of hardware in proper position too. This is usually a job for two or more people, so before you hang a door, you may want to enlist the help of a pro or of another person to assist you.
