Kinds of shower rods

Shower rods now come in a wide variety of styles. Some are made to telescope open and then stay held in place against supporting walls by means of an internal spring that is housed and hidden away with the rod itself. These are great if you need to hang a shower curtain but you do not want to bother with having to install it with brackets, plates, and other hardware. For instance, if you live in a rental place, where you do not want to do anything to damage the walls, but you want to put up a shower curtain, you can use one of these and it leaves no visible marks on the walls. You can even take it with you when you move to another place. A friend of ours uses these because she has lots of expensive antique ceramic tile around her shower, and in order to put up a bracket she would have to drill into the tile, which would risk shattering it, and would permanently scar it. Instead, she just pops in a spring held rod and the job is finished.

Rods that attach with bracket hardware come with the hardware, and it is a wise idea to check the packet of hardware before you leave the store, to make sure that you have everthing you need before you go home and discover that you are missing one little screw that prevents you from doing your project until you go back to the store and hassle with getting the proper parts.

When hanging any kind of shower rods, you should use a level to rest across the top of it, to ensure that it is level. Or - especially if you think that the room itself is not level or plum, so that putting up a level rod that is truely level might make it ascew compared to the way the rest of the room looks, you can use a relative type of measure, that works great in such situations. To do a relative measure, just pick a spot on the floor and measure up from there, on both ends of the rod, and hang it there.

Of course, as with any project, if you can hire a pro to hang your shower rods, that is the best course of action, although it may be the most expensive.
