Kinds of shower stalls
There are many kinds of shower stalls, for
many purposes and placements, for work, home, and recreation. One of the
most interesting is used by outfits like FEMA, the Federal Emergency
Management Agency in the USA. It is also used by various military
organizations, by EMS and other emergency teams, and by any and all HAZMAT
or hazardous materials handling organizations that are well equipped, and
have the most current tools, technology, and training.
This kind of shower is used in the field, and the entire system of one or
more shower stalls is made to be erected and useful within a matter of
minutes. The design basically consists of a plastic or rubber box, tunnel,
or small building, usually resembling a tent for camping, that is held up
by curved aluminum piping or other types of skeletal and structural
materials like those used for camping tents. Once the basic shelter is set
up, plumbing is attached so that chemical washes can be pumped in, to
allow people to shower after exposure to toxic elements, without exposing
any body else to the same toxic chemicals.
Of course we are all more used to conventional shower stalls, and these
days most of those are made fabricated in mass quantities, in factories
that mold them from materials like plastic coated fiberglass. These are
available for quick and easy modular installation at all home improvement
and plumbing centers, and it is this type of shower that most of us have
at home and use in motels and hotels.
Lastly, there are those shower stalls that are made for camp grounds, for
the beach, or for other places out doors, and these are usually a simple
piped and fauceted system with a wooden enclosure around the area under
it, for privacy and to keep the water from spraying everywhere.
The first shower stalls were probably made by using thatch or bamboo or
other materials, and sometimes we find ones like this still in use, in
places like Central America.
