The steam shower
A regular shower often has no steam, or even
any warm water involved. But a steam shower is one that uses steamy water
to clean, refresh, and sooth us. The steam is sometimes a by product of a
hot shower, and accumulates in the shower enclosure, creating a sauna bath
type of affect. At other times, no actually water streaming from a shower
head is used, but instead the whole bath is taken using vapor from water,
or steam. This can be done by having a heat source such as heated rocks,
and then pouring water over them, which turns the water into steam. The
steam is then channeled into a room where you sit and soak in the steam
itself, allowing you to in one sense, take a rather dry shower in steam
instead of water itself.
The steam shower is often found in a health club, spa, or exercise
facility, because it is believed - and many who have taken this kind of
shower also will support the idea, which has also been researched by
experts like doctors and physical therapists - that the action of steam
helps to soften up and soothe tired, cramped, sore muscles. For this
reason, many professional althetes are in the habit of using a steam type
shower after working out, practicing, or playing in a competition.
If you would like to see how it feels to take a steam shower, then you can
inquire and see if the spas, health clubs, and other such facilities in
your community will let you try one out for free, as a sample of what
their memberships have to offer. Or you can sometimes pay by the hour or
by the half hour, to use this kind of shower facility in a place where you
may not be a regular club member.
And of course, if you are a little creative, you can always rig up a
system in your own shower at home, to create lots of steam by running the
hot water, and then you can take a steam shower in the privacy and comfort
and convenience of your own bathroom, before the steam begins to disipate
and the room clears.
